"We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed."
Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

A fun, fast-paced read. Haven is the right amount of action, romance, suspense, mystery and more. It's a great blend of all the elements I except to find in a good ole YA paranormal book. It reminded me of why I fell in love with YA paranormal books in the first place.

Rain and Freddie definitely have the kind of romance I've come to except in a Mary Lindsey book. It's one that can go from zero to fully engulfed in flames within seconds. There are also plenty of laughs with these two stubborn as they come, won't take no for an answer or run away from anything, kind of characters. They are definitely the perfect match. I liked the way they break down each other's walls, or should I say Rain breaks down Freddie's walls. He has absolutely no fear, and doesn't shy away from knowing what he wants regardless of the consequences.

This book has a wide range of intriguing, sometimes extremely interesting, and as well as down right creepy characters. As in the kind creepy that actually creeps you out. One of the characters I really liked is Rain's aunt. She isn't afraid of anything. She fits the mold perfectly of a Texas country women; no fear of anything, fiercely independent, yet welcoming and loyal. Her personality is the perfect fit for a story and setting like Haven, especially given all that takes place in the story.

I loved this book's setting and it's mythology. I especially loved the setting, because I know the real area it's inspired by. My next visit to there will definitely have me thinking of the 'what-if' part of this story's mythology. I loved the element of magic and lore Enchanted Rock played in the story. In real life, there's already a rich history and lore surrounding that area. Mary's twist on it was awesome.

I really liked how this story wrapped up. It was the perfect ending for Rain and Freddie's story. At the same time, I kind of wanted there to be more. I'm curious if Mary will add more stories at a later time, or keep this as a single book. It definitely does not have an open ended ending, but there's definitely plenty of more stories to tell from the various characters. Either way, I'm looking forward to reading Mary's next book!

If you're looking for a fun, fast paced, YA paranormal read, pick this one up!
