Book from publisher to read in exchange for my honest review

The sides have been chosen and the battle lines drawn.

Echo awakened the Firebird. Now she is the only one with the power to face the darkness she unwittingly unleashed . . . right into the waiting hands of Tanith, the new Dragon Prince. Tanith has one goal in mind: destroy her enemies, raze their lands, and reign supreme in a new era where the Drakharin are almighty and the Avicen are nothing but a memory.

The war that has been brewing for centuries is finally imminent. But the scales are tipped. Echo might hold the power to face the darkness within the Dragon Prince, but she has far to go to master its overwhelming force. And now she’s plagued by uncertainty. With Caius no longer by her side, she doesn’t know if she can do it alone. Is she strong enough to save her home and the people she loves?

Whether Echo is ready to face this evil is not the question. The war has begun, and there is no looking back. There are only two outcomes possible: triumph or death.

A thrilling conclusion to a series I've enjoyed reading. I thoroughly enjoyed being back in Echo's world. With nonstop action, love, redemption, betrayal, sorrow, friendships and so much more, this was a book I couldn't put down once I started it.

With the ending of The Shadow Hour, I knew going into this book that it would be an all or nothing storyline. Anything could go, and it did. I was pleasantly surprised with the direction this story took. Grey definitely knows how to keep clinging to the pages, and holding my breathe. I loved that she doesn't hold back, and neither do her characters.

I really liked the character development in this story. Especially with Echo. Yes, she's been through a lot, and she carries so much what she's been through with her. However, she has learned to recognize the power and strength that comes with accepting who she is now. That all she's been through up to this point is apart of her, but it doesn't define who she can become, and who she is right now. That's part of what makes her a strong, fierce fighter who doesn't give up, nor does she back down when things get tough. I really admire her, and who is she in this story. I felt like she finally accepted herself for who she really is.

I absolutely loved the support Echo has with Caius, Ivy, Dorian and Jasper. Watching Echo and Caius learn to navigate through years of pain, and guilt, and move on, was beautifully heartbreaking, and hopefully all at the same time. I appreciate the fact that this wasn't rushed. It was perfectly plotted and well paced. It made their learning to trust each other, and in themselves, realistic.

I love it when an author creates characters who aren't just back ground characters. They've characters who come to life, and steal the show as much as the main character does. I love what Caius, Ivy, Dorian and Jasper have all brought to this series, and especially to this storyline. They're each just as crucial to Echo's story, as Echo is. I loved seeing the way each of them grew stronger, both individually, and together.

While their friendships have been unbreakable, the love they've each felt for others have been lines they haven't wanted to cross. Until now. I absolutely love seeing complicated romance(s) get shattered when characters realize that what they've been fighting is inevitable, and they finally give into their feelings. Though I did understand why a few of this series's characters didn't want to risk the heartache, but I'm so glad they did, and loved seeing why the stopped fighting it.

Packed with emotion, action, and unforgettable characters I didn't want to say good bye to just yet, The Savage Dawn is the most fitting ending for The Girl At Midnight series. It's one that leaves you wanting so much more, while feeling satisfied at the same time. I highly recommend picking up this series.

For readers of Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones and Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war.
Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she’s ever known.
Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she’s fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it’s time to act.
Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it’s how to hunt down what she wants … and how to take it.
But some jobs aren’t as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.

Everything in Echo's life changed in a blinding flash when she learned the startling truth: she is the firebird, the creature of light that is said to bring peace.

The firebird has come into the world, but it has not come alone. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and Echo can feel a great and terrible darkness rising in the distance. Cosmic forces threaten to tear the world apart.

Echo has already lost her home, her family, and her boyfriend. Now, as the firebird, her path is filled with even greater dangers than the ones she's already overcome.

She knows the Dragon Prince will not fall without a fight.

Echo must decide: can she wield the power of her true nature--or will it prove too strong for her, and burn what's left of her world to the ground.

Welcome to the shadow hour.
