An action-packed and suspenseful sequel to The Witch Hunter, perfect for fans of Graceling and the Grisha Trilogy.

"I think, in time, you'll either be my greatest mistake or my greatest victory."
Former witch hunter Elizabeth Grey is hiding within the magically protected village of Harrow, evading the price put on her head by Lord Blackwell, the usurper king of Anglia. Their last encounter left Blackwell ruined, but his thirst for power grows stronger every day. He's readying for a war against those who would resist his rule--namely Elizabeth and the witches and wizards she now calls her allies.

Having lost her stigma, a magical source of protection and healing, Elizabeth's strength is tested both physically and emotionally. War always means sacrifice, and as the lines between good and evil blur once more, Elizabeth must decide just how far she'll go to save those she loves.

This is an action packed sequel with surprising twists, plenty of answered questions from where the first book left off, and the right amount of romance. With plenty of action, suspense, romance, and a character who isn't afraid to follow her own heart, I loved the turn of events in this book.

This sequel was awesome! From the storytelling, to the character growth, the storyline, to the world building, everything about this sequel was captivating. I read this book in one sitting, it was that entertaining. The character growth in this book was great! Elizabeth has really grown up as a character. She's become someone who's taken matters into her own hands. Things are definitely different for her, and her training is much harder. I admired the person she became. She's someone who doesn't back down when things are hard. She wants to fight for the right, and protect those she's come to care about, and love. Not only that, being around those she used to hunt down is hard, but I loved seeing the change in her, and those around her.

I love the cast of characters in this book. There's such a diverse group of characters, and I really enjoyed getting to know each of them more. There's also a few surprises with some returning characters. I loved that we get more Schuyler, Nicholas, Peter, Fifer, and John. John however, goes through a lot of changes, which is to be excepted given what Elizabeth gives him. If he didn't go through these changes, it wouldn't have been as believable. It's definitely hard seeing these changes in him, because he isn't the same person he was prior to that. I love the moments when we see the real John, and I love his scenes with Elizabeth, when it's just the two of them, and they have their stolen touches, and well, their swoon-worthy moments too.

There is no shortage of action in this book! I love that isn't just the guys who can hold their own in battle, but the girls can too. I loved how well paced the fight scenes were throughout the book. I have to give Boecker credit, she has created a ruthless villain with Blackwell. This man will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Fans will be surprised with a few twists Boecker throws into this storyline. One of which was Malcolm, and another character, whom I won't name for sake of spoilers, that returns. The only issue I had, had to do with Malcolm. It's something that happened in the previous book, which is also mentioned in this book. I just can't forgive and forget that scene. No matter what he does in this book, it doesn't redeem him enough for me.

Over all, I really enjoyed this sequel! I loved the direction the story went, seeing how much Elizabeth grew, and the changes that take place with some of the other characters, which fit for all that they're dealing with. There's plenty of action, with the right amount of romance included! What a great ending. Though I loved how this duology wrapped up, part of me wishes there was one more book. I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters just yet. I definitely recommend picking this book up!
