True love may mean certain death in a ghostly affair of risk and passion from New York Times bestselling duo Christina Lauren, authors of Beautiful Bastard. Tahereh Mafi, New York Times bestselling author of Shatter Me calls Sublime “a beautiful, haunting read".

When Lucy walks out of a frozen forest, wearing only a silk dress and sandals, she isn’t sure how she got there. But when she sees Colin, she knows for sure that she’s here for him.

Colin has never been captivated by a girl the way he is by Lucy. With each passing day their lives intertwine, and even as Lucy begins to remember more of her life—and her death—neither of them is willing to give up what they have, no matter how impossible it is. And when Colin finds a way to physically be with Lucy, taking himself to the brink of death where his reality and Lucy’s overlap, the joy of being together for those brief stolen moments drowns out everything in the outside world. But some lines weren’t meant to be crossed…

A haunting, bittersweet love story. Sublime is a ghost story with a complex love story at it's heart. You know when you read a story about a girl who's a ghost, and boy with a heartbreaking past, that things may not go in the happily ever direction, at least it seems impossible right? Sometimes if there's a will, there will be way, if it's a different kind of way.

Sublime is a story about Lucy and Colin. Lucy is a ghost. She's dead, yet, she's very much real. At least in a twisted, haunted sort of way. When she awakes in the frozen forest outside the prep school, she can't remember what happened, and how she got there. That's what first intrigued me with Sublime. I wanted to know more about her. What happened to her, how long has she been out there, and what in the heck is she now. Through out the course of the story those questions are all answered in the form of Lucy getting some of her memories come back. Even though the truth of what happened to her is devastating to learn, there's more to what she is and why she's there that she and Colin uncover.

Colin is the boy with the heartbreaking past. He's what you may call reckless, has no fears, and is a true daredevil at heart. In a twisted sort of way, it was so surprise to me that Lucy and Colin developed a connection, or maybe I should say it was fate that brought them together. Either way, Lucy and Colin have a strong connection. At first it hooked me. There was so much mystery surrounding Lucy, that I wanted to know more. I wanted to know why she felt so drawn to Colin. With Colin, I wanted to know why he was the only one who saw Lucy the way he did. Lucy and Colin's story uncovered a dark past about the place Lucy is tied to.

I really liked that Sublime is told from both Lucy and Colin's points of views. In doing so, it allowed me to get more of the story, as well as both the characters. There were parts of the story I enjoyed reading about, and other parts I didn't enjoy as much. I loved the mystery that Sublime has. There's ghost, a history of hauntings, and the murder mystery that readers learn more about as the story goes on. I liked that I had to read the entire book to learn the reasoning of why Colin and Lucy are tied together. It's complex, and not at all what I was excepting.

There were a few things with the story I didn't like. The connection between Colin and Lucy when it went from something that hooked me, to being one that crossed the obsession/unhealthy line, was one of them. Without giving away any spoilers, there is a reason why it's like that, and it does get answered towards the end of the book. While the characters intrigued me, I was hoping for more character development, and didn't get it. On the flip side, not having in depth characters does work for this story, as it's a story that doesn't need a lot of depth to it. I felt that the ghost story, murder, mystery and love story elements are what drive this story. Despite my not loving the story over all like I wanted to, I liked that Sublime is not the typical YA paranormal "ghost" story. I can say I've not read anything story like Lucy & Colin's. *There are some sensual scenes and there is language in the book that might not be suitable for younger YA readers.

CHRISTINA LAUREN BIO

Christina Lauren is the combined pen name of long-time writing partners/besties/soulmates/brain-twins Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. The coauthor duo writes both Young Adult and Adult Fiction, and together has produced seven New York Times bestselling novels. Their books have been translated into 22 languages. (Some of these books have kissing. Some of these books have A LOT of kissing.)

Lauren Billings (but everyone calls her Lo) has a Ph.D. in neuroscience and before she made writing her full-time job, would spend her days doing nerdy research-type things wearing a lab coat and goggles. She is silly Mommy to two littles, wife to one mountain biking homebrewing scientist, bestie to a shoe-stealer, and an unabashed lover of YA and romance.

Christina Hobbs (but you’ll always hear Lo call her PQ) used to spend her days in a junior high counseling office surrounded by teenagers. Married to the cutest boy in school, she has a thirteen year old daughter, is an unapologetic lover of boy bands and glitter, and also likes to steal Lo’s shoes.
