Mallory killed her boyfriend, Brian. She can't remember the details of that night but everyone knows it was self-defense, so she isn't charged. But Mallory still feels Brian's presence in her life. Is it all in her head? Or is it something more? In desperate need of a fresh start, Mallory is sent to Monroe, a fancy prep school where no one knows her . . . or anything about her past. But the feeling follows her, as do her secrets. Then, one of her new classmates turns up dead. As suspicion falls on Mallory, she must find a way to remember the details of both deadly nights so she can prove her innocence-to herself and others.

In another riveting tale of life and death, Megan Miranda's masterful storytelling brings readers along for a ride to the edge of sanity and back again

Hi Megan! Welcome to Mundie Moms! I'm looking forward to reading Hysteria. Which did you have the most fun creating, the  story's suspense,  the characters or the settings?
Thanks so much for having me on your blog! I had the most fun creating the characters, which is always my favorite aspect of writing. More specifically, creating the relationships between them—and how their lives have woven together (or, if they’re meeting for the first time, how these chance encounters affect their futures).

How would you classify Hysteria, as a psychological thriller or realistic fiction?
Full disclosure: I’m horrible at classifying books, especially when I write them! But my gut instinct would be to classify it primarily as a psychological thriller. I think that’s the feeling that dominates, in this case.

What is one thing you came to admire about your character Mallory?
That even though she’s had horrible things happen to her (and has been involved in them as well), she doesn’t let that ruin her faith in other people. She still sees the good. Maybe not in herself, but she wants to see it in others.

What is one book you've read as an adult that you wish you had read as a teen?
Looking for Alaska. It’s probably my favorite YA book that I’ve read as an adult (if I had to pick). I went to a boarding school (though I lived close enough to commute from home), and so much of that book resonated with me, even now. But I think it would’ve had even more of an impact back then.

What are some of your writing must haves?
Silence is my biggest must-have. I’m easily distracted by any noise, and sometimes have to break out the white-noise machine. I’m also highly dependent on caffeine.

Thank you Megan for stopping by and joining us today!

  • Oh Will! We learn a few things in this chapter. One, Will can talk to ghosts. Two, the Silent Brother prisons can not hold the dead or living (interesting), and Three, Will's looking for a potion to not be in love? Okay rip my heart out. Poor Will. What are your over all thoughts with the prologue?
  • What do you make of the A Tale of Two Cities quote at the beginning of the Clockwork Prince? What do you think Cassie's trying to tell us about CP with this quote, if anything?

Please DO NOT POST SPOILERS. There's some fans who are joining the read-a-long who are reading Clockwork Prince for the first time.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

The first in a sweeping science fiction trilogy, These Broken Stars is a timeless love story about hope and survival in the face of unthinkable odds.

Meet the "Stars"!
You see that gorgeous photo up there? One of the things we adore about our cover is how well-cast the models in the photo shoot were. It’ll be a while before most people get to meet Lilac and Tarver completely, but we thought that since you’re all getting a little glimpse at them on the cover, it’d be a good idea to tell you a little more about the stars of the story! Meet Lilac--for Tarver, click here!

Lilac LaRoux
Age: 16
Height: 5’9”
Hair: Red
Eyes: Blue

Bio: Lilac Rose LaRoux is the richest girl in the galaxy. Her father is the owner of LaRoux Industries, the only galactic corporation with the resources to terraform entire planets. Lilac is known for her lavish parties and her killer fashion sense, and has been the media’s darling ever since she was born. Though life in the spotlight leaves little room for secrets, there’s still plenty that the paparazzi don’t know about her. She’s much more than she appears to be on the magazine covers and holovid specials--and she prefers to keep it that way.

Waiting on Wednesday #174: Rump: the True Story of Rumpelstiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff

By: Lisel Shurtliff
Published by: Alfred A Knopf Books
To Be Released on: April 9th, 2013
Pre-Order From: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

In a magical kingdom where your name is your destiny, 12-year-old Rump is the butt of everyone's joke.
Rump has never known his full name—his mother died before she could tell him. So all his life he's been teased and bullied for his half-a-name. But when he finds an old spinning wheel, his luck seems to change. For Rump discovers he can spin straw into gold. Magical gold.

His best friend Red Riding Hood warns him that magic is dangerous—and she's right! That gold is worth its weight in trouble. And with each thread he spins, Rump weaves himself deeper into a curse.

There's only one way to break the spell: Rump must go on a quest to find his true name, along the way defending himself against pixies, trolls, poison apples, and one beautiful but vile-mannered queen. The odds are against him, but with courage and friendship—and a cheeky sense of humor—Rump just might triumph in the end.

An inventive fairytale retelling, perfect for fans of Gail Carson Levine or Shannon Hale -quoted from Goodreads

As excited as I am over many of this year's YA releases, I'm even more excited for this year's upcoming MG releases. This just something about reading a MG/kids book that takes me back to when I first feel in love with reading. Plus what's not to love about a book that gives me more quality time with my kiddos. Liesl Shurtliff's upcoming book RUMP is one that not only has a catchy cover, but it's a fairytale retelling! I love fairytale retellings. I'm looking forward to picking up this book when it's out. What book are you waiting on?
