Blog Tour: Through The Even Night by Veronica Rossi (Author Interview / Giveaway)

I am so excited about today's blog tour! Not only do I get to share with you a little bit about my newest love, Through The Ever Night, but author Veronica Rossi is on the blog today!! First, let me share with you a little bit about this book. *sigh* Yes, it's that good! I didn't think Veronica could top what she did with her debut, but boy was I wrong!!

It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.

Threatened by false friends, hidden enemies, and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and dystopian elements to create a captivating love story as perilous as it is unforgettable

Welcome back to Mundie Moms Veronica! We LOVED reading Through the Ever Night. Did you find it more challenging or easier writing a sequel compared to writing a debut novel?

It was very much harder for me. When I wrote UNDER THE NEVER SKY, I wasn't on deadlines. I was very motivated to work on it, but I didn't have any pressure to do so. It was just an adjustment I needed to make. Now that I have written a book on deadlines, that pressure has lessened dramatically. It's no longer a big unknown for me; I know I can do it. Writing books isn't "just for me," the way it was with UNDER THE NEVER SKY, but it's incredibly satisfying and very fun. I love my job!

We're a little divided on which guy we like more. What's one of things you've come to admire about both Roar and Perry?

Oh, for Peregrine I'd say it's his sense of duty. He has such a rough exterior, but he has the biggest heart. He's such a decent guy who's had a hard life. And for Roar... I'd say it's his sense of humor. He has a great outlook on life.

To me, Aria is a character who grows tougher and more resilient with each book. What do you feel is one of her biggest strengths?

She's resilient. Aria is this very elegant girl, but she's tough as nails. It's an inner strength... you don't see her laying down the hurt on people a lot, but when she needs to act, she's a viper. She's also the bravest character in the series. No question about it.

Which character have you had the most fun writing/getting to know?

This is so impossible for me to answer! I've loved all of them. Even the smallest side characters! There is a dog in THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT, Flea, and I even adored writing him!

I'm not sure which I like more, your writing, your world building, your romance or the danger that always seems to accompany your characters. Which element has been the most fun for you to write about?

As a reader, I really love stories that feel balanced, and juggle all of the aspects you mentioned above equally. For me, that is the fun part. It's weaving frie ndship and love, betrayal and honor, quiet moments and earth-shattering ones. It's all the great contrasts... it's the range of human experience that I love.

If you could include one of your favorite fictional characters into Aria and Perry's world, who would you include and why?

I think Aria and Laini Taylor's Karou would get along great, and poor Aria is always saddled with a bunch of boys. She could use a very cool, badass blue-haired friend :)

Have you read anything recently that you'd recommend we go pick up?

Well, I've been on a big non-fiction binge, as I do research for my next project, so I haven't been reading as much YA as usual. I will say that Warm Bodies is excellent. I wanted to read it before the movie comes out, and I'm so glad I did. It's really outstanding.

Thank you!!

You are so welcome! And thank you!

Beat the game. Save the world.

Pandora’s just your average teen, glued to her cell phone and laptop, surfing Facebook and e-mailing with her friends, until the day her long-lost father sends her a link to a mysterious site featuring twelve photos of her as a child. Unable to contain her curiosity, Pandora enters the site, where she is prompted to play her favorite virtual-reality game, Zero Day. This unleashes a global computer virus that plunges the whole world into panic: suddenly, there is no Internet. No cell phones. No utilities, traffic lights, hospitals, law enforcement. Pandora teams up with handsome stepbrothers Eli and Theo to enter the virtual world of Zero Day. Simultaneously, she continues to follow the photographs from her childhood in an attempt to beat the game and track down her father, her one key to saving the world as we know it. Part The Matrix, part retelling of the Pandora myth, Doomed has something for gaming fans, dystopian fans, and romance fans alike. -quoted from Goodreads

Given that we live in a world that thrives and mostly runs on the internet, it was only a matter of time before an author took the "what if" I've conjured up in my mind over the years, and brought it to life. Tracy Deebs does just that, and in a really exciting way. I've always wondered what would happen if/when someone found a way to control or unleashed something that would virtually shut down the Internet. How long would it take to effect everyone, how would the world go on, what catastrophic effects would it have on the world etc, etc. I know, late at night when I can't sleep my mind tends to wonder, but you can't tell me you haven't ever thought of the "what if". Even if you say no you have never thought that, I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one who did, because Tracy apparently has as well (yay I'm not the only one).

I enjoyed the way Tracy told Pandora's story. Pandora is not only a butt kicking heroine who's stubbornness kind of got on a nerves just a bit through out the story, she's a smart girl, who's also an incredible game player. She's independent, a bit lonely since she lives alone most of the time due to her mother never being around since her work has her flying all over the country. Luckily she has a few close friends who keep going, and until now her  father who's never really been apart of her life unexpectedly becomes apart of it again. Let's just say after the little number her father pulls in DOOMED, you'll understand why Pandora's mother never wanted him in her life. Thanks to dear ole' Dad, Pandora's unleashed a monster virus, and it's going to take everything she and her friends Eli and his bad boy older step brother Theo, can do to stop it.

Theo and Eli. I enjoyed the complicated relationship these two brothers had, and I liked the relationship Pandora has with them. She's already friends with Eli, and has her reservations about Theo. Y'all know I like a bad boy, and though Theo doesn't ride a motorcycle this tall brooding, dark her hacker boy definitely fits the bill for a good ole' bad boy in this story. Together these three made for a fun story. They're not only on the run from every Government agency in the US, they also have a time limit to stop the game before the world ends. Yep, you read that right. This virus was unleashed in a game, and though they have to play the game in order to defeat it, they're also dealing with the virus and it's horrific consequences in their own world. Throw in dealing with attacks, accidents, falling in love and oh yeah, traveling around the US without having any sort of internet, way to get $, gas, food etc. and you've got yourself an adventure mixed with plenty of danger and mystery.

I really enjoyed this book! Normally these type of books aren't my thing, but this book surprisingly was. I think part of it had to do with Tracy's writing style, and other part was due to how fast paced and fun this story is. It's one that is full of mystery, excitement, danger, and course has a romance, though the friendship between the characters plays the biggest part in the book. Normally books that are sci-fi or deal with techy stuff lose me, but with DOOMED, I felt like everything made sense. There are a lot of little details that add up as the story goes along, and plenty of bigger reveals that all wrap up by the time the story finishes. Sometimes it's nice to get out of my element and read something I normally wouldn't. DOOMED for me was a really fun read I read in a matter of a few hours. If you're a fan of what I like to call realistic dystopian, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up!

Mundane Monday #170: A Teaser from Jace's POV from the Alleyway in City of Fallen Angels

Happy Monday!! You know it's going to be a good Monday when you can finally read part of the infamous alleyway scene with Jace and Clary in City of Fallen Angels, from Jace's point of view.

I love you. He can’t say it, so he tries to tell her with the pressure of his lips and his body and his hands. I love you, I love you. His hands are around her waist, lifting her, and he had forgotten: she isn’t fragile; she is strong. Her fingers are digging into his shoulders, her mouth fierce against his, and his heart is pounding like it’s trying to get free of his body as he sets her down on a broken speaker.

Stop, his mind is telling him. Stop, stop, stop. He forces his hands away from her and places them on the wall, on either side of her head. Only that brings his body closer to hers, and that is a mistake. He can see the pulse slamming in her throat; her lipstick is gone he can’t look away from the carnation-pink of her mouth, flushed from kissing, as she breathes: “Why can’t you talk to me? Why can’t you look at me?”

His heart is pounding as if it wants to leave his body and take up independent residence somewhere else. “Because I love you.”

It is the truth, and an inadequate truth at that, but he feels it punch through him with the force of a lie.  Her face softens, her eyes widening. Her hands are against him, small and delicate and careful, and he leans into her, breathing the scent of her under the smell of rainwater. “I don’t care,” he hears himself say. “I’m sick of trying to pretend I can live without you. Don’t you understand that? Can’t you see it’s killing me?”

He is drowning, and it is too late. He reaches for her like an addict reaching hopelessly for the drug he has sworn not to touch again, having decided it is better to burn up in one final blaze than live forever without it.
