WonderCon: TMI Panel Videos

There has been SO much buzz from this weekend's WonderCon. From the TMI panel, to the TMI theatrical trailer to the two new movie posters. You can see the wrap up post, and the Jace and Clary posters Sophie posted about yesterday here. If you're like me, you have been anxiously awaiting to see the videos, and I've found two from yesterday's TMI panel featuring Cassie, Jamie, Lily and Kevin.

This is one event I really, really wish I could have been at. I've heard from a few of my friends whom were there, and interviewed some of the cast how awesome it was. I'll link to their interviews when they have their posts up.

The Bane Chronicles: 2 News Teasers *SPOILERS*

There's been two exciting posts made this weekend by both Cassie and her co-author Sarah Rees Brennan about The Bane Chronicles. Please note, there are SPOILERS in this post. I've posted smaller versions of the images since they are spoilers in and of themselves. Please click on them to make them bigger.

From Cassie:
A snippet from the Bane Chronicles. CLOCKWORK PRINCESS SPOILERS.
The snippet isn’t really words. It’s art. But it’s under a cut anyway because it remains spoilery for Clockwork Princess. Art by the incomparable Cassandra Jean.

This boy had pale amber eyes, like a crystal glass filled brimful with crisp white wine and held up to catch the light of the sun. Magnus could not imagine these eyes as tender. The boy was lovely, but his was a beauty like that Helen of Troy might have had once, disaster written in every line. The light of his beauty made Magnus think of cities burning.
Fog and gaslight receded into memory. His momentary lapse into foolish nostalgia was over. This was not Will. That broken, beautiful boy would be a man now, and this boy was a stranger.
“I,” the boy announced, “am James Herondale.”

Per Cassie & Sarah:
Huzzah! Cassie and I just finished a… certain instalment… of the Bane Chronicles!
To celebrate it we thought we might put up a few lines! You know, for you all to enjoy.
Spoilers for Clockwork Princess…! Starring a certain JH, and illustrated by the incomparable Cassandra Jean.

James had not seemed to want to be taken from the cold depths of the water: had fought Magnus as he dragged him out, then laid his pale cheek against the dank earth of the riverbank, and hid his face in his arms.
For a moment Magnus had thought he was crying, but as he stooped down to check on the boy he found he was barely conscious. With his cruel golden eyes closed, he once again reminded Magnus of the lost boy Will had been: Magnus touched his damp hair gently, and said “James,” in as kind a voice as he could.
His eyes were shut, black lashes ink-dark crescents against the marble-pale lines of his cheekbones. Sparkling drops of water were caught in the curling ends of those lashes: he looked unhappy as he slept in a way he did not when awake.

Only a few more weeks and we'll get to read more!!!! I can not wait!

Happy Easter!

Wondercon Wraps Up with Debut of City of Bones Theatrical Trailer

Kevin Zegers, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins and Cassie Clare.

Wondercon wrapped up successfully yesterday and we were treated to both Cassie's and Sarah Rees Brennan's tweets and pictures.

So fun to see the cast and watch this round of interviews.

Lily being interviewed at Wondercon.

Jamie talking about how much he loves his sister in the movie...Isabelle.

Cassie tweeted a picture of her hand and Jamie's.

Isn't it amazing to see this process coming together? Yahoo! Movies released hi-res versions of Jace and Clary's posters. Excuse me while I stare at them a little bit longer. Aren't they the perfect Jace and Clary?

But here's the best part, the theatrical trailer was shown as well and if Collider's post is any indication, audiences are going to love it: "an action-packed visual feast that got the general idea of the story across to newcomers". Click over to read the rest of their "City of Bones" panel recap; there are some fun things disclosed.

Who's ready for August 23rd??

Clockwork Princess Debuts on New York Times Bestseller List

We apologize for lack of posts on MMs. Katie's having some technical difficulties with laptops...perhaps they are demon possessed? Where's Jace when we need him?

But, we are thrilled to share the news that Clockwork Princess debuted at the #1 spot on the New York Times Best Seller list! The Infernal Devices is #1 on the series list taking over the spot from The Hunger Games. What an accomplishment!

Clockwork Princess also debut at the #2 spot on USA Today and achieved the #1 spot on Publishers Weekly.

One amazing, deserving book. But as usual, Cassie thanks her fans for their support. In a touching post on her tumblr, titled "Ave Atque Vale Infernal Devices", she wrote this beautiful letter to her fans:

Dear Shadowhunters,
I wanted to tell you a little story about the Infernal Devices. Back when I first started writing it, a lot of people told me historical fantasy fiction — historical fiction period, except in romance — didn’t sell, no one would read it, my readers would never follow me from The Mortal Instruments to a series set in the past, and that my desire to release them as an alternating series was “totally crazy.”

But I loved the Infernal Devices and I loved the characters and the story and I decided to write them anyway, because well, what is life without passion projects. And I figured if basically nobody read them, well at least a few people would read them and love them.

Since the release of Clockwork Angel, the response from my readers has been overwhelming. As I said, I hoped some people would read them, but I never dreamed that so many people would come to love the characters I loved and embrace the story I’d taken a chance on.

This past week I’ve been on tour for Clockwork Princess and I’ve gotten a ton of wonderful news. Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince both debuted at #1 on the NYT children’s bestseller list. But when a series hits three books, they move it from the children’s bestseller list to the “series list” — where the really heavy hitters like The Hunger Games, Twilight, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson hang out. I didn’t dare to hope that Clockwork Princess would propel the books to the top of that list. (The Mortal Instruments has been on top of that list but — it’s not historical fiction.)

On Wednesday I got the news that Infernal Devices was #1 on the New York Times series list. Which means that my historical fiction series, that everyone told me no one would read, debuted at #1 for *all three of its book releases*. ANYWAY. I have a larger point here which is not about me, but about you.

While working on this series (which I have been doing since 2008) I often doubted myself, and my wild idea of writing the historical-fantasy-trilogy-vaguely-based-on-Tale-of-Two-Cities I really wanted to write and hoped people would read. But you never doubted me, even when I doubted myself. TID was a huge amount of work — months of research, plowing through first-hand histories, working with the incredible researcher who helped Neil Stephenson and Libba Bray fine-tune the details of their historical fiction) memorizing dictionaries of Victorian slang, traveling back and forth to England and Wales multiple times a year, throwing up in a plant pot (well, that last part wasn’t strictly necessary but it did happen last time I was in London.) But it was also work for you guys: accepting and coming to love new characters, adjusting to the world of Victorian London, accepting odd diction and a whole load of Latin and Welsh and Mandarin dumped on your heads, and you did it: you proved to be so much more imaginative and adaptable and open than publishing likes to ever imagine readers to be.

You, readers of the Infernal Devices, made all this happen: loved and celebrated these books and supported them in numbers far, far greater than I could ever have hoped.

I am enormously grateful to those who came from the Mortal Instruments to the Infernal Devices thinking they might love Shadowhunters in any age. I am enormously grateful to those who found the Infernal Devices first, and loved them. I am grateful to you all for giving me, and this world and these characters, the chance you did. I am grateful beyond measure to all of you, who followed Tessa, Will and Jem to the end…and even beyond that.

What I wanted to say, in the end, was this: writing this series was one of the dreams of my soul. Thank you for dreaming my dream with me.
I think it's safe for me to speak for all Mundie Moms when I say -- Cassie, we will dream a dream with you any old time. You can read the full post here on Cassie's tumblr.

Cassie Clare's Movie Set Diary Day #5

It's Friday and the count down is on for the April 1st reveal of the TMI theatrical trailer being revealed at WonderCon this weekend. I can't wait for Monday so the rest of us can finally see it! Today over at Teen, they shared Cassie's Day 5 movie set diary. I swear these diary posts get more and more exciting. I love seeing the "behind" the scenes stuff with this movie. Enjoy Cassie's Day 5 diary post.

Day Five: Friday
Because I am actually in a scene today, I have to show up early for costume and makeup and hair. I pass Robbie on the way to set — most parts of sets are unglamorous, back alleys and loading docks and that sort of thing.
I get a trailer of my own(!), bonus of which means SIDEBURNS GUY has to bring me tea. We discuss his sudden fame.
Godfrey is on set early to get his hair and makeup done too. Of course he looks cool even without his hair and makeup done. Here he is wearing his Magnus jacket and jewelry but without his hair done yet. And the shades are his.

I am informed [that I'm] going to be some sort of cat demon in a business suit. Maybe running a cat demon empire. I’m not totally clear on it, but I do know I have a great selection of AMAZING SHOES to choose from. Everyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with shoes, so this is the greatest day of my life. I finally pick a pair that are black and sparkly.

After that, I get ushered into hair and makeup. Someone has pasted something hilarious but profane to the mirror; they tell me it was Kevin. It’s super fun being worked over by makeup people, especially when their instructions are to go wild and crazy. My favorite part is getting the cat ears attached. They are bright gold and held on with a band and a million hairpins.

After makeup, I wobble on my high heels over to set, which is inside an enormous mansion. It has been done up with bright lights and Chinese lanterns. There are tables everywhere, and on the tables are the brightly colored party drinks from City of Bones. Harald positions me carefully at a table with a ghoul and a banshee.
It’s already dark, and really cold, so we all get little handwarmers to hold onto. The ghoul and the banshee are big Hunger Games fans. We talk about that for a while. The crew keeps coming over to ask me questions, and so does Harald. Eventually the ghoul is like, “Who are you?” I explain I am the author and they seem pleased to have me since they feel this means we are likely to get more blankets and handwarmers.
There are long pauses between takes during which Kevin and Jamie have a contest regarding who can jump higher and touch the tree branches. The girls are much calmer and obviously very cold and covered in blankets since the scene requires them to be in party dresses — very short!
Lily and Godfrey have a lot of dialogue as Clary and Magnus. I sneak a picture of them in front of some cool screens.

After several hours, the shooting seems to have wrapped up so I am ready to go home when I find out that no, it’s not over — all the scenes have to be shot again, from a different angle. We all shuffle around the tables and it’s about three in the morning so I start napping on the table in between takes. Acting is hard, I observe. No one is all that sympathetic.
MTV is on set that day so everyone is doing their interviews in between the action as well. Godfrey has to do his with no pants on, but you can’t tell because he’s sitting down. Now you know, though.
Finally. I am ready to go home. It’s dawn, so I go grab my suitcase and head to the Toronto airport to fly home. I am unable to get the cat ears out and have to walk through the airport wearing them. I get a lot of strange looks and set off the metal detector. When the guard asks me about the ears I explain I was in a movie. “Sure, you were,” he says. Clearly the glamour is over!

Cassandra Clare's On Set Movie Diary Day #3 & #4

And We're BACK! After a few technical difficulties on my end, I'm excited to finally be able to start posting again. Please forgive the numerous posts you're going to see on here that have been waiting to post since late Wednesday night.

Cassie's set visit Day #3

Day Three: Wednesday
I’m in Video Village. Jemima, hair as yet undyed, comes over to show off her Marks.

I discover that all meals served on a movie set are “lunch.” Even if it’s two in the morning, it’s lunch. I eat lunch with Madame Dorothea. She is on her way to being a bit demony, so she has huge talons on her fingers. She is however a beautiful and classy lady. I feel guilty about her eventual fate. There is not a lot funnier than watching a whole bunch of Silent Brothers who have their mouths stitched shut try to eat. They all end up consuming their “lunch” out of boxes with straws.

Later Robert [Kulzer] shows me the “greenhouse scene” on his iPad. I can’t hear the dialogue, but it looks beautiful. Robert says, “I am a producer, which means my heart is cold and dead, so if I find this romantic and affecting it must be great.” Fair enough.

Shooting goes really late. Hartley, who is the line producer, is caught sneaking hot chocolate to fans lurking outside the studio. Apparently Hartley is a veteran of many films and used to shooing people away, but the TMI fans are so adorable that so far he has given them food and they’ve even had bracelets made for the set visitors. Below is Kevin [Zegers] holding one (it says THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, 2O12):

Cassie's Set Visit Day #4
Day Four: Thursday
Today is a really late start day because shooting went late the night before, and there’s a mandated 12-hour turnaround for cast and crew so everyone can sleep. It’s also the day we have Grace, who is our girl from the Make-a-Wish foundation, on set. It was her wish to be on set for the City of Bones movie. I’ve actually corresponded with Grace before and sent her a bunch of iratze charms, which she still has. I’m so touched she kept them so we have a little moment, hugging and dancing around the costume room. Grace sobers up when she sees some of the Magnus’ party costumes, which are ever so slightly on the naked side. Fun, though. Brocade jackets! Crazy boots! Backless dresses! Sparkles everywhere! Grace winds up with a nicely tasteful look.

The shooting is on location that night in a subway tunnel. The cast has their chairs down on the platform. It’s fairly cold, so there are blankets for everyone. Kevin [Zegers] takes a picture of me with Jemima — she’s almost completely wrapped in a blankie.

Grace is doing her extra work, and she’s adorable. I’m hanging out with her mom when an extremely tall hot dude shows up on set. It’s Godfrey, who has come by to say hi, though he’s not shooting that day. So yes, I get to be there when he meets Kevin. They hadn’t run into each other before. I will keep the magical words they spoke secret, but it may have included the greeting “Hey, dude.” Me with Godfrey:

Rafy, the photographer, comes over to see if I want to be an extra in the scene but Harald says, “No, she’s going to be at Magnus’ party.”
Me: “I cannot be at Magnus’ party. I am not glamorous. Also I will get nervous and pass out.”
Harald: “YOU WILL BE AT MAGNUS’ PARTY.”

Looks like I will be at Magnus’ party.

I don't know about you guys, but I love reading about Cassie's set Diaries. You can read the first visits by clicking on the link above.

My Mini Review:
Cassie is a literary genesis! I'm now dying to talk about this book. I already gushed and gushed over it with my Alyssa at TMI Source, but I felt the need to jump on here really quick and say WOW! Clockwork Prince is Cassie best book yet!! I laughed, I cried, I sighed, I balled, and I felt totally complete with this book. Clockwork Princess is full of so many feelings. I absolutely LOVED it! That's all I'm going to say about Clockwork Princess right now. I'll have a review up later this week or next week, since I'm headed to CA this week for Cassie's signing. Don't be afraid to pick up this book. It was everything I hoped it would be and nothing at all what I excepted. This was the perfect ending for The Infernal Devices.

My Longer Review:
They say that all good things come to an end, and this was an end I did not want to come. For over a year now I have freaked out, stressed over, and anxiously waited the fate of those characters I have come to love in The Infernal Devices. And WOW did that end come, and leave me breathless! Like, I could not have asked for a more PERFECT ending to my favorite series. The way Cassie wrapped up Clockwork Princess and her series was P-E-R-F-E-C-T! It was nothing at all what I was excepting and everything I hoped it would be.

Let's talk about the book.

I LOVED this book!! Like hard core LOVED it, and I mean everything about it. I have never laughed so much, sighed so frequently and bawled so often, like I did with Clockwork Princess. You know you've read a rarity when an author can effortlessly pull you into their world, make you love their characters as much as they do, and allow you to feel every emotion they do. That is exactly what Cassandra Clare has done for me with this series, and more specifically with this book. Cassie really is a literary genesis. She knows how to weave together her character's snark, their heartbreak, and those moments that catch my breathe and make me reread a scene, so beautifully. This book gave me feelings of love, hope, excitement, heartbreak, worry, and everything in between.

Clockwork Princess is perfection on paper.

Everything about this book was real while I was reading it. When it was over I wanted to crawl back inside and escape into this lovely Victorian Era Shadowhunter world. While reading Clockwork Princess I'm there. Where ever the characters went I felt like I went there with them. I'm in London, at the Institute, in the carriage, sitting in the library, at Magnus's, on the bridge, in the country side, etc. Oooh, and that one scene that happens with those two people....you know with the um dragon thing. Yes, I was so there. Okay not really, but *sigh* That was the best written you know what scene ever! There are so many things I wish I could discuss with you guys, but that will be reserved for a later date when I will talk about the spoilers.

Character wise.

These characters could not have grown more than they did. All of them. I loved seeing how each character grew, and matured, and changed. From Will, Tessa, Jem, the Lightwoods, to Charlotte and Henry, Cecily, Sophie, Magnus, and everyone in between. This is where Cassie really got me as a reader. What I was not excepting was to see how much Will and Jem had switched roles, and yet it made perfect sense. These two are truly one. I LOVED seeing Will for who he was. Finally. He was the character I always knew he could be. Tessa couldn't have been any stronger and braver than she was. Jem could not have done more than he did. The thing I loved about all three of them, is the undying love, respect and gratitude they each equally had for each other. Yes, equally. All three loved each other equally, yet differently. What Will and Jem had was nothing Tessa could ever have with them, and what Tessa had with Jem, was nothing she could have with Will. What she had with Will was nothing she could have with Jem, and yet, the LOVE they each have for each other was their driving force in the choices and decisions each of these characters made. It's made what them do what they did in the end, and it's what made the ending and the epilogue so beautiful.

You know what else made these characters shine? Their moments together. Their stolen glances, their private conversations, their undying love for one another, and subtle moments when they touch. The sweet finger interlocking, the way their knees touch in the carriage, when one of the guys softly moves hair out of Tessa's face, those tender kisses that quickly turn into passionate ones, and the way the characters gravitate and move around each other. If you want to read a story that has all the right moves, and is written with beauty, passion, and includes all those moments that make you feel weak in the knees for it's characters, then read one of Cassie's books. She knows how to write a scene that makes you ache for her characters and yet you feel so satisfied with what you get. See, now I want to go re-read a few scenes.

The Epilogue

This ending was perfect! There was nothing left in my mind that did not make sense or that wasn't explained perfectly. Cassie wrapped The Infernal Devices up PERFECTLY! I knew how things ended with the series, I know the direction other characters are going in, and in what series I can except to see some of them. Though you'd think it was sad to get to the last page, my heart was over joyed at the future that lies ahead, and what the past held. Yes, I cried like a baby when Tessa reminisces on all that occurred in her life during The Infernal Devices time (none of this is a spoiler since we know Tessa is talking to Magnus at the end of City of Glass), but I also felt such hope for her future. I loved finding out what's to come for her and a few others in City of Heavenly Father and then The Dark Artifices. While I'm sad this series is over, I could not have asked for a more perfect story or a more perfectly fitting ending for my all time favorite YA series. Thank you Cassie!
