Cover Reveal & Giveaway: Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff

I'm thrilled to be apart of a team of bloggers who are helping author Jay Kristoff reveal his cover for his upcoming release, Stormdancer. Stormdancer will be released in the US on September 18th by St. Martin's Press.

Check out the cover:

About the book:

A DYING LAND
The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, land choked with toxic pollution, wildlife ravaged by mass extinctions.

AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST
The hunters of Shima's imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger – a legendary beast, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows thunder tigers have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.

A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a hidden gift that would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.

But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

Book Review: Last Rite by Lisa Desrochers

Rating: 5 stars -- I loved it!
Series: Personal Demons, book #3

Synopsis: In this final installment of the thrilling, edgy Personal Demons series, the battle between Heaven and Hell has become critical, and Frannie Cavanaugh is right at the center of it.
With the help of the powerful angel Gabe and demon-turned-mortal Luc, Frannie has been able to stay one step ahead of the forces of Hell. But when the demons killed Frannie's best friend and destroyed her brother, they raised the stakes. If Frannie wants to keep her family and friends safe, she knows she has no choice but to go on the run.

Their best defense is the power Frannie has been struggling to master, but her attempts to hone her skill go horribly awry. If Frannie doesn't learn fast, the consequences could be devastating—even apocalyptic.

Dear Frannie,

When I read Personal Demons, I had to write a letter to Luc because, well a) I’m a Mundie Mom and b) Demon Boys usually spell trouble. But, Luc was lovely and conflicted and oh, Frannie, I know you know exactly what I’m talking about. And yes, he still spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e.

Katie wrote a letter to your author, Lisa Desrochers, after she finished Original Sin, because let’s face it, Katie was in still in shock at the ending.

I decided to write this letter to you because you are no longer the naïve, young girl we met in Personal Demons. Oh no, Frannie, you are mature and apprehensive and fiercely protective of the ones you love. And Mundie Moms have to love that.

When all Hell, literally breaks loose, you hold your own. Okay quick aside, kiddo. Gabe? Gabe? Gabe! I didn’t expect he’d cause me to tear up. I know why you love him – his protection and safety (okay, and hotness) made me understand the sacrifice he made to stay with you. He spells trouble in an entirely different way.

I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s a Really Bad Guy in the story and the way Lisa presented him quickly made him one of my very favorite antagonists. I have a long list, trust me on this, and he remains near the top. He was untrustworthy and seductive and OMHeavens funny. Yes, in the middle of a holy-heck-what-is-going-to-happen-here scene, I found myself giggling out loud. Be sure to tell Lisa that part because her comic timing was pitch-perfect.

Frannie, may I mention your family? You know how much I love them (and particularly, Grandpa) and there’s a lovely back-story that made everything make so much sense. Again, I have to thank Lisa because she revealed pieces of a puzzle in the midst of an action sequence that didn’t let up, and I got to have that amazing feeling of “OOOOOOH, I get it.”

I need to end this before I give up spoilers (I’ve already edited out a few). I only have one question left – who was the better kisser, Luc or Gabe? Oh, never mind, I think a little demon may have whispered the answer in my ear.

(Aside to MMs: If you love angel-demon mythology (and I know you do), go pick up the Personal Demons series. You guys need to meet Luc, Gabe and Frannie. This summer, turn up the air conditioning and enjoy one hell of a ride.)

Flashback Friday / Book Review: Daimon by Jennifer L Armentrout

Flashback Friday is back! I've been a little busy lately and took a little break from this meme, but I'm picking back up with it today. Flashback Friday is a meme I started last year here on the blog for the sole purpose of spotlighting books that have been sitting on my shelf to read for awhile. This will include titles released the previous year and ones that have been out for a few years. Today's feature is Daimon by Jennifer L. Armentrout. This book is a short e-book that's apart of Jennifer's Covenant series.

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her -quoted from Goodreads

I am a huge Jennifer L. Armentrout fan. Her books are packed for paranormal awesomeness, sizzling character chemistry, butt kicking heroines and plenty of snark. Jennifer's Covenant series is one of my favorites. This series features Half-Blood and Pure (you can click on the links to read my reviews). If you're a fan of the series, I'd recommend reading this short e-book series, as it's from Alex's point of view and leads into the very beginning of Half-Blood.

I admit, Alex is a little rough around the edges, but that's part of what makes her so much fun to read about. She's snarky, she proves she can totally fend for herself, and yet through her strength, she's also a little broken. If you're already read Half-Blood, I think you'll enjoy getting a sneak peak into Alex's life as she tries to fit into the human world, as well as getting a glimpse into her relationship with her Mom, and then of course her life on the run that leads her to scene at the very beginning of Half Blood. Plus this is a great filler to read while we're patiently waiting for the next book in this series, Deity.
