City of Fallen Angels Read A Long Day 12: Sanctuary

Welcome to Day 12 of the City of Fallen Angels Read-A-Long. You can follow the entire read-a-long and find each of the day's posts here. Remember there's no right or wrong way to participate. Your comments can be as long or a short as you'd like them to be. You can answer one or each of the questions asked, it's totally up to you, BUT, in order to be entered into the COLS giveaway (which you also had to sign up to win), you do need to be actively participating in the read-a-long.

Today's discussion is about: Chapter 12: SANCTUARY
  • The talk Izzy and Simon have broke my heart for Izzy, but it also allowed me to understand her a bit more. She's a tough girl, and I really admire her strength, though I totally feel for her and that brokenness she has. Where you as shocked as I was to find out about her parents?
  • *sigh* These sweet Jace and Clary moments are killing. Cassie knows how to lure us in and than break us a bit each time something happens between the two of them. This scene totally killed me at the end. I loved the two of them finally get to just enjoy each other and talk, and then .... What the heck is wrong with Jace!?! *for those of us who have read it know, but please do not say anything spoilery in your comments*
  • I LOVE that Magnus and Alec are back. If you've not yet read the Infernal Devices, were you shocked to find out that Camille and Magnus once dated? To those of us who have read it, I'm seriously really curious over why Camille would only want to talk to Magnus. Do you think it's because she trusts him?

Please DO NOT POST SPOILERS. There's some fans who are joining the read-a-long who are reading COFA for the first time.

    1. *I think I was a little shocked, but not completely. My heart definitely broke for her though. That is a huge burden for a girl to have on her shoulders knowing that, but not telling anyone. I totally understand her fear of lovef and commitment now though.

*Ahhhh This part killed me!! I won't say anything else on that.

*Since I had read Clockwork Angel I knew about Magnus and Camille's relationship, but I really didn't know why she would only talk to him.

    2. *I thought this new information about Izzy was really interesting. Of course, I felt bad for her. It also helped me understand her character better and made her more complex in my eyes. And yes, I was absolutely shocked. We don't see that much of Mayrse and Mr. Lightwood (I forget his name!) but I never imagined they were having problems.

*Ahhh yes, this part was so romantic and then...ruined. Sigh.

*Camille is very confusing to me. I'm glad that Magnus and Alec are back, although I truly felt bad that they had to cut their vacation short. They had opera tickets!

    3. Oh! I love Izzy so much! Her personality is awesome but it really shocked me the story of her parents, even if it was evident that something wasn't working for them. Even before Max's death I've never seen them very close to each other!
Jace and clary's moments? Cassandra is really killing me! Every time you think that everything is going to be ok and then, all of a sudden, something terrible happens! That's not fair! (:
I've read the Infernal Devices and I'm sure that Camille just wanted to get revenge because of the last meeting she had with Magnus in "Clockwork Prince"! However, you can never say never with her so maybe there could be other problems.. But I have the doubt she just wanted to see Magnus's new boyfriend and maybe make him jealous a little!

    4. Izzy and Simon's conversation broker my heart for her. It truly shed some light on Izzy's attitude toward romance. I was surprised about the Lightwood's marriage, and it does make me angry at Maryse for burdening a thirteen year old like she did. Bad mom moment!

The first time I read this chapter, I was so stunned! Jace!!!!!!! WTH??????

I wonder about Camille and Magnus. I think that he truly loved her, and Camille is depending on it. She needs Magnus, and she assumes that he will help her. I wish I knew more about them. ;P

    5. Yep, Izzy did break my heart just a little bit in this chapter. Because this is a re-read for me, I think this conversation is why I inevitably decided that Simon should chose Izzy.
Poor Jace! The love between these two is still so evident in this scene though. I liked Clary's toughness with him though. It killed her, but she wasn't going to cave until they talked. Yep, Cassie can definitley rip your heart in two in a matter of seconds.
I think Camille is counting on the affection between her and Magnus. ID readers know how heartbroken Magnus was though. They really take their immortality differently. I like Magnus' take on it much better than Camille's. She has totally lost her humanity but I don't think Magnus ever will.

      1. Also.... the conversation between Izzy and Simon gave me one more reason to like Maryse just a little less... no mom should put that burden on their young child. Just sayin'

    6. I was incredibly shocked! I mean, I never saw Maryse and Robert as a romantic pairing but I didn't expect that! It makes sense though.

Jace is annoying me a bit. I mean, he fought so hard to be with Clary and now he's avoiding her! I don't know what's wrong with him but he should makes up his mind.

I think Camille has some sort of leverage or proposition for Magnus. I wouldn't trust her near him. And I feel so bad for Alec that he has to deal with this. :(

    7. ok so izzy did break my heart. but shes strong and independent even what happened with her parents that what i like most about her. shes a cool girl. and jace.... wth is wrong with him. he and clary get these incredible moments and the BAM something goes wrong and interrrupts them. this is really killing me. im gld alec and magnus are back i missed them. and i wasn't too surprised to findout camille and magnus used to date. magnus is probably the only person she trusts.

    8. I was shocked to learn about the Lightwood marriage...how awful for Izzy to have to carry that secret at such a young...explains alot about her personality/attitude....

Oh stop the roller coaster I want to get off....ugh such a great moment...had my hopes up that things were better and boom....again..

Camille is trouble with a capital T....using Magnus for sure...revenge on him...or as a tool against the Shadowhunters...I'm not sure yet...but mark my words she is up to no good...

    9. I personally am not shocked because my parents have raised me saying to not trust anyone so yeah I can kinda relate with Izzy. I admire her more than before now<3
Jace is on something, I believe, why would he do that, I'm starting to worry what if he is going against the Clave?
No I wasn't shocked cause in the first book, CoB, is mentioned that Magnus is bisexual so yeah hehehe but Camille took lead in the relationship, she was rough with Magnus. Maybe Camille does trust Magnus plus they've known each other for quiet a long time, I wonder what Camille has to say, maybe she still loves Magnus? That'll be crazy hahaa.

I'm loving the book so much<3
And I'm happy to know Magnus and Alec are back=)

May everyone have a great rest of the day=)

    10. This is one of my favorite Izzy/Simon scenes. I love it when Izzy is more open about herself, when she starts falling for Simon even though she doesn't want to trust him.
The first time I read this and Jace cut Clary, I was speechless. I knew he'd had nightmares about hurting her but I never thought he actully would!
And then there's Camille. Part of me feels sorry for her and likes her, but another part of me says that she's selfish and conniving and that I should not pity her one bit. I don't know- I still haven't made up my mind about her.

    11. I was really glad Izzy shared with Simon. It really let me see her as a more developed character. It also helped me to understand her a little bit more. I can't believe Jace really did cut Clary, I am thinking maybe he did come back alright when he died and then came back to life. I think Alex and Magnus are really cute.

    12. I honesty can't believe Marse would relay such information to a child about her parents relationship. Doesn't she know how damaging that could be.

What the heck Jace, you and Clary where having an honest to goodness earth shattering moment there. So I guess he had a good reason for pushing her away.

I do believe that even though Camille and Magnus's relationship was so long ago she feels like he is the only one she can turn to

    14. It's Sad that Mayyrse would burden her daughter with her marital problems, It gives a lot of insight into the type of women mayrse is. She comes across as cold and unfeeling. It makes me wonder if she was always this way or if her husbands infidelity changed her. I think that Izzy is in love with Simon, maybe her brothers can show her a better example of what love and relationships mean then her mother and father did.
Camille is cold and calculating. I think that Camille is counting on Magnus's former affection for her. Camille is a user of people and I think she has used Magnus once and she will try to use him again.

    15. I don't know if I was shocked, but I did feel for Izzy. I'm sure she feels like she has to appear strong and untouchable, but she and her whole family have been through hell, let's face it. I was really sad for her when I read that. Also, shame on Maryse for putting that on a child! I was really ticked off at her for that, actually.

Loved the Jace and Clary scenes. They are sooo in love :)

I wasn't surprised that Camille would ask for Magnus, but if I hadn't read CA, I would have been....

    16. I never saw what was coming with Izzy's parents that was completely out of nowhere but at least I can understand Izzy a lot more than before. All her actions make so much more sense now and its just sad how she has kept that all to herself without dealing with it.
I can't believe Jace actually did hurt Clary. He must have thought he was dreaming again because he wouldn't actually do that. Everything that has happened to Jace throughout the series is definitely messing with his head and I hope he can be fixed.
It was interesting when I read Clockwork Angel and found out Camille and Magnus dated but he was such a gentleman so its not that big a stretch to have them together. I think Camille trusts Magnus because of there past but also because he isn't a shadowhunter so he doesn't have to fully go by their rules.

    17. I was missing Alec and Magnus is not the same with out them. I'm happy they are back and they are still together.

    18. I really liked getting to understand her a bit more. Yeah, Izzy's tough and speaks her mind, but she's also still just a young girl. And you really get to see that here with Simon. Which probably wasn't all that easy for her.

Sweet Jace and Clary moments. I love them, but knowing Cassie they can't ever really last. At this point I remember being like, what?!

Oh the shocks! I love Magnus's character, and having one more person call on him for help isn't all that surprising. Camille, who knows what's up her sleeve.

      ReplyDelete
    19. I wasnt shocked really. Her parents never seemed in love to me. They seemed together out of convienience. I don't know why. They just gave me that vibe. It does help to explain her behavior though.

      NOT ANSWERING THE SECOND ONE!!!

I love that Alec and Magnus are back. They add a little bit of comedy to the scenes. Heart them together.

    20. All I can say about this chapter is JACE! The scene with Clary and him was so tender and sweet yet so sexy and hot! I had forgotten what a master Cassie is with this. I was also relived to hear him admit that something was wrong but it wasn't because he didn't love her anymore. I love Jace so much and I'm so worried about him. It's breaking my heart.
