Interview with Afterlife author, Claudia Gray

We are really excited to have Claudia Gray on our site today. Her fourth book in the Evernight series, Afterlife will be out TOMORROW! Recently we had the chance to ask Claudia a few questions about her series, but first, a little bit about Afterlife.

Afterlife

Destiny awaits Bianca and Lucas . . .

Bianca and Lucas have always believed they could endure anything to be together. When a twist of fate not only transforms Bianca into a wraith but also turns Lucas into a vampire—the very creature he spent his life hunting—they are left reeling.

Haunted by his powerful need to kill, Lucas can turn to only one place for help . . . Evernight Academy. Bianca is determined to remain with him. But with the vampire leader of Evernight waging a war against wraiths, her former home has become the most dangerous place she could be, despite the new powers her ghostly transformation has given her.

A battle between wraiths and vampires looms, and Bianca and Lucas face a terrifying new reality. They've overcome every obstacle life has thrown at them, but is their love strong enough to survive the challenges after life? (quoted from Harper Teen's site).

What inspired you to start writing the Evernight series?
Probably my own romanticization of boarding schools when I was a teen, living literally five minutes' walk from my school. I liked the idea of being farther away, where of course everyone would be gorgeous and sophisticated and incredibly dramatic things would happen all the time. I doubt boarding school always works this way, but at least Evernight Academy does.

In three words, how would you describe your vampires?
Conflicted, complicated, beautiful

Which of your characters would you want to hang out with and why?
I'd love to take a road trip with Vic and Ranulf sometime! We'd have some adventures, I'm sure, and I bet Vic has some awesome music.

What has been one of the most memorable places you've gone to on tour?
I always love getting out and meeting readers, wherever that might be, but I'd have to say this year's overseas trips to Spain, Italy and Australia were extra-fabulous.

If you could have a paranormal power, what would it be and why?
Invulnerability. I mean, really, if you're invulnerable, the sky's the limit. Whereas a lot of other paranormal powers aren't that useful without invulnerability; they're just more interesting ways to die.

Mundane Monday #74

Happy Mundane Monday! Oh how we've missed Jace & Clary! Have a great Monday!

"I lied," he said. "Demons lie, Clary. You know, there are some kinds of wounds you can get when you're a shadowhunter-internal injuries from demon poison. You don't even know what's wrong with you, but you're bleeding to death slowly inside. That's what it's like, just being your brother."

"But Aline-"

"I had to try. And I did." His voice was lifeless. "But God knows, I don't want anyone but you. I don't even want to want anyone but you." He reached out, trailed his fingers lightly through her hair, finger tips brushing her cheek. "Now at least I know why."

Clary's voice had sunk to a whisper. "I don't want anyone but you, either."

She was rewarded by the catch in his breathing. Slowly he drew himself up onto his elbows. Now he was looking down at her, and his expression had changed- there was a look on his face she'd never seen before, a sleepy, almost deadly light in his eyes. He let his fingers trail down her check to her lips, outlining the shape of her mouth with the tip of a finger. "You should probably," he said, "tell me not to do this."
