Thoughtful Thursday- Favorite Reading Places

I'm getting ready to go on a little trip to the beach, and I'm looking forward to being one of those beach goes who does this.....

Ever since moving to TX I've rarely gone to the beach, and I'm really excited about going. I'm headed to FL for a few days and I've heard their beaches are amazing, which also has me wondering how much reading I'm really going to get done. That got me thinking about favorite reading places. I googled favorite reading places and here's an assortment of places I found listed.
  1. In Bed
  2. At The Park
  3. In A Library
  4. On A Couch
  5. In A Tent (that's a new one to me)
  6. In A Tree House
  7. In The Bathtub
  8. On the Beach
  9. At A Friend's House
  10. In The Car
  11. By The Pool
  12. On the Subway
  13. Starbucks/Coffee House
  14. Outside
My favorite place to read is on my couch in my library room. Don't laugh, I really do call one of my rooms a library room because the room is full of bookcase (11 to be exact). One day I'll post a picture of it. Really I'd like to pretend it's one of those grand libraries that needs a ladder to reach the books on the top shelves, I'm picturing the library in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I don't remember how old I was when I first saw that movie, but I've been in love with that library ever since.

Okay, maybe not as big, but wouldn't it be awesome to have a room similar to that in your home? Maybe I'm a total book geek, but I'd love it.

I would also love to sit and read by a crystal, clear mountain lake. I have the whole scene pictured in my mind. It just seems like it would be so peaceful reading outdoors with that fresh mountain air, away from everything. Plus I'd get to escape this horrid TX heat wave.

What's your favorite place to read? Do you ever imagine a place you'd like to be reading at?

  1. I don't have a particular favorite place, but I do think it's interesting that I have read in all the above places listed on you search (even the tent...big camping here in Colorado.) I've always been one of those people who can read anywhere in almost any circumstance...I can tune out just about anything. I have read while walking, cooking, and while someone else is watching Transformers in the same room. But, now that I think of it, my favorite place is really anywhere I can be with the last quarter of a good book without having to put it down to do something else.

  2. I have never thought about taking a book camping and I don't know why. I grew up camping and never once took a book to read. I love your comment about being able to read any where with out having to put the last quarter of the book down. That's so true!

I can tune out noises around my house, but if I'm at a public library I get easily distracted by all the sounds people make there. LOL I admire the fact you can read anywhere.

  3. I love reading in bed, especially on a Sunday morning. Also sitting on my back vavandah in the shade on a nice warm day. I've been trying to work out a way to read in the spa (I think you say jacuzzi in USA) without getting the book wet. Any tips?

  4. Mostly I read in my chair that looks onto my backyard. But I love to read outside with a cup of coffee when it isn't 110 degrees.

  5. I can, will, and have read literally anywhere, but I LOVE reading outside in the fall and spring. My campus is beautiful in both seasons (although football games make it difficult to do anything on campus besides tailgate on fall weekends haha) and once fall actually hits, we get some really great weather for reading. The beach is probably next, especially the beaches on 30A between Panama City Beach and Destin (if that's where you're going LUCKY YOU!!!!) but it's harder to read on the beach because it's bright and kinda windy. :)

  6. MissEmmG- Your back yard sounds lovely. I never figured out how to read being near a spa or pool. I envy those who do.

Amy- Lovely! I'd love to read out back, but I need more trees for shade. It's definitely nice being outside when it's not so hot.

Demoiselle- I miss the four seasons. I LOVE fall! I'm headed to Pensacola. I can't wait!!!

  7. I read a lot in my room or at school in the hallway. I don't think I have a favorite place, though. Just somewhere quiet and I don't really like reading outside because of the glare of the sun.

  8. My favorite reading places are, in no particular order: my bed, on the train to or from work and in the bathroom.

I did sit on a bench in our public park yesterday reading while I waited for my husband, and it was very nice just by a fountain surrounded by pretty flowers. I like that too, but I'm gonna have to do it more than one time for it to be a favorite!

  11. DJ- The infamous school hallways. I enjoyed reading there a lot as well.

Helena- I need to find your public park. That sounds like a wonderful place to sit and read.

Anonymous- In bed or snuggled under the blankets are the best for rainy days.

    Sophie- I'm so there!

  12. Wow, now that's a library I'd love to have! I love reading outdoors too, pretty much anywhere outside. Beneath a tree is one of my favorite spots though.

  13. I like reading on our boat while floating in the lake. I would love to see photos of your library! We have our bookcases in our family room literally bursting with books. A decorator once told me I had too many books on my shelves..... :/ *but they're book shelves* I replied......

I even have a small bookcase in my art studio because I am constantly inspired by books. Only my very favorite books are in the studio :D I am a hopeless nerd, I guess....

  14. Heather- I know! That library is fabulous!

Ricki- That sounds like a fabulous place to read at. Too many book on your shelves? At least she didn't say you had too many bookcases. lol

  15. My favorite place to read is the living room couch. It's the brightest place in my house down the day! I do wish that I could read a book on a big floaty in the pool (sounds so relaxing!), but I'm be too afraid of getting my book wet!! Going on to imaginary places, I want to read on an air current that carries me across fantastical lands and magical realms :D

  16. I just have to say, you're not the only one who wants to getaway from this Texas heat! It's horribly too hot! I actually had my air conditioner on a few minutes ago, but I kept sweating so I just turned it off... lol
As for my favorite place to read is outside under some shade, like a tree, but right now there's no shade near what so ever.
So I've been reading on my desk next my laptop for now... When you described the crystal clear lake-Oh, I just wanted it come true before my eyes so bad!
I've always wanted to read by a crystal blue river or lake, but it hasn't happened. But it will happen, I hope, well, a teen can dream! haha.

  17. Okay, besides the Beauty and the Beast Library (which I will openly admit has totally swayed me to making that my all time favorite Disney movie...) my dream reading experience has always been on a red velvet chaise lounge in a turret room. Don't know where I came up with that idea, but that is my mental "happy place." *sigh*
