November Teasers for COFA

I know you guys love teasers as much as we do and today Cassie has shared some great teasers! Really, when are they not great.

Teaser 1)

The Queen’s eyes glittered. “You told me that you did not wish to make a compact with me, for there was nothing I could give you. You said there was nothing in the world you wanted. When you imagine your life without him, do you still feel the same?”
*Why are you doing this to me?* Clary wanted to scream, but she said nothing, for the Faerie Queen glanced past her, and smiled, saying: “Wipe your tears, for he returns. It will do you no good for him to see you cry.”

Teaser 2)

“That wasn’t fair,” Simon said.

“Maybe,” said Isabelle. “But I watch my brothers give their hearts away and I think, Don’t you know? Hearts are breakable. And I think even when you heal, you’re never what you were before.”

As always, you can find all her teasers from this year here http://cassandraclare.com/cms/faqs/cofateasers

*The cover is one of our cover winners and is NOT the actual cover to COFA*

Interview with Ally Condie, author of Matched

I am so excited to have Ally Condie on our site today. I am a huge fan of her soon to be released book, Matched. Here's a synopsis:

Society MATCHED them, but love set them free.

In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die. Cassia has always trusted their choices. It's barely any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one...until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path no one has ever dared to follow-between perfection and passion. (quoted from ARC)

How would you describe Matched to our followers?

This is a story about a girl who learns to choose. Who discovers poetry and passion and the ability to create, and who falls in love for the first time.

I really admired Cassia and the choices she makes. What did you admire most about her?

I liked that she was willing to break away from the safety of her very cozy world, but that she also cared about the consequences of that choice and how it might affect others. She’s much more brave than I would be!

What character surprised you the most in terms of their character growth?

Cassia’s parents did. At first, they were kind of bland, generic parents—nice but sort of uninteresting. And then I got the sense that their stories had more depth, that they weren’t entirely who they seemed to be.

As a reader or a writer, what do you like most about a dystopian book?

The first dystopian book I read was 1984 by George Orwell. I loved the sheer terror and agony I felt as I read that book. I think that’s what I still like to find—the fear and catharsis in reading about a world that isn’t your own, but could be unless you do something to help prevent it. I think the best dystopian fiction has this aspect about it—it feels like it truly could be real someday.

If you were a character in Matched, what job would you want to have and why?

I think I’d like to have Cassia’s mom’s job. She works outside with the plants, flowers, etc., and is in the rare position in the Society of actually creating and caretaking something, rather than just guarding or destroying it.

Twitter Tuesday - Maurissa Guibord

So like most Mundie Moms, I've been trying to plan ahead and take a peek into what books are coming out in early 2011. And as I was scrolling through The Elevensies site, I realized that I had placed Maurissa Guibord's Warped on my TBR months ago.

Synopsis (from Maurissa's web page):
Tessa Brody doesn't believe in magic. Or Fate. But there is definitely something weird about the dusty unicorn tapestry that she discovers in a box of old books. The wild, handsome creature woven within it draws Tessa, and frightens her too.

Soon after the tapestry comes into her possession strange things begin to happen. Tessa experiences vivid dreams of the past and scenes from a brutal hunt. When she accidentally pulls a thread from the tapestry, Tessa releases a terrible secret-one that has been contained for centuries. She also meets William de Chaucy, a young sixteenth-century nobleman with gorgeous eyes, an odd accent and haughty attitude to spare. His fate is as inextricably tied to the tapestry as Tessa's own. "His Lordship" is pretty hard to get along with but equally hard to resist.

Together with Will, Tessa must correct the wrongs of the past to defeat a cruel and crafty ancient enemy.

But what is she willing to sacrifice in order to do it?

Cruel, crafty ancient enemy? Time travel? Okay, I'm there. Be sure to pre-order Warped at your favorite bookstore before its January 11, 2011 release date. Also follow Maurissa on twitter and keep up with her latest goings on via her blog . I'm really looking forward to this one. I think 2011 is going to be a wonderful year for new releases.
