Book Review - Shade

Published by Simon & Schuster
Released: May 2010
4 Stars- I really liked this book. Go pick it up.

Synopsis (from Simon & Schuster):
Love ties them together. Death can't tear them apart.

Best. Birthday. Ever. At least, it was supposed to be. With Logan's band playing a critical gig and Aura's plans for an intimate after-party, Aura knows it will be the most memorable night of her boyfriend's life. She never thought it would be his last.

Logan's sudden death leaves Aura devastated. He's gone.

Well, sort of.

Like everyone born after the Shift, Aura can see and hear ghosts. This mysterious ability has always been annoying, and Aura had wanted nothing more than to figure out why the Shift happened so she can undo it. But not with Logan's violet-hued spirit still hanging around. Because dead Logan is almost as real as ever. Almost.

It doesn't help that Aura's new friend Zachary is so understanding--and so very alive. His support means more to Aura than she cares to admit.

As Aura's relationships with the dead and the living grow ever complicated, so do her feelings for Logan and Zachary. Each holds a piece of Aura's heart...and clues to the secret of the Shift.

Okay, ghost story lovers, Jeri Smith-Ready has a story for you. In fact, she has an entire incredible world for you. One filled with Pre- and Post-Shifters. The latter can see and hear ghosts but the former can't.

With that set up, we meet our protagonist, Aura. She's a Post-Shifter. In fact, she's the first Post-Shifter. Otherwise, she's a fairly normal girl living with her Aunt Gina, a lawyer fighting for ghosts' unresolved deaths. And by fairly, I mean she's dealing with some very basic high school worries like whether she should lose her virginity to her long time boyfriend. That's when things go wrong. Very wrong.

But a Scottish exchange student, Zachary, enrolls in her school. His secret? He's the last Pre-Shifter. Yes, Zachary and Aura are linked by this phenomenon. The Shift occurred between their births. So begins a delicious mystery, which will keep you up at night until you turn that last page. Did I mention that Zachary is handsome and understanding? And that Logan is the Love of Aura's Life?

Enjoy the conflict, the world and three characters linked in death and love. I did. Your turn now, go and pick up Shade and get ready for some ghostly twists and turns.
