Book Review - Two Way Street

Released June 26, 2007

3.5 stars- I liked this book.

Synopsis (from Simon Pulse): This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They're even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation.

Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet. It's too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney's heartbroken, but figures she can tough it out for a few days.La la la -- this is Courtney pretending not to care.  But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot.

Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

Jordan is a bit of a player, definitely not someone Courtney could ever see herself falling for, and this is one of those cases where opposites really do attract.  But things are never plain sailing as far as first love is concerned and their relationship is cut short by a secret that could destroy both of them.  Courtney is obviously heart broken and decides to use their road trip to college to find out what really happened with their relationship and get the answers to the questions she's too scared to ask.

This was the book that introduced me to how dual narrative can do wonders for a story.  I loved that the narrative switched between Courtney and Jordan, giving me as a reader more insight into them as characters.  Their voices were unique and fully formed and the dual narrative fleshed them out more and made me more invested in the story.  It also lets you see what they think and feel for each other, meaning you can enjoy the book more without worrying and constantly speculating their feelings and the meanings behind their actions.

Two Way Street was a lovely story about first love and how sometimes relationships aren't always easy, then can be hard, harder than you ever expected, and that love is something worth fighting for.
